We’re currently recruiting SEMH & Behaviour Support Assistants to work on a supply basis across specialist and alternative provision schools in Northumberland. These roles are ideal for those with experience in behaviour management, youth work, or SEN environments.
Responsibilities
Support students aged 5–18 with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, trauma, or diagnosed conditions such as ADHD or autism
Provide 1:1 and small group support inside and outside of the classroom
De-escalate challenging situations with a calm, consistent approach
Build strong, trusting relationships with students and staff
Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies
Assist with daily routines, transitions, and personalised learning plansRequirements
Experience working with young people with SEMH or challenging behaviour (in schools, PRUs, Alternative Provisions or similar)
Excellent behaviour management and de-escalation skills
A resilient, empathetic, and non-judgemental approach
A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
Team Teach or other behaviour training is a bonus (but not essential)Benefits
