Secondary School Youth Support Worker – Newport
Location: Newport, South Wales Start Date: April 2026 Hours: Full‑time / Part‑time (flexible) Pay: Competitive, depending on experience
About the Role
We are currently seeking a committed and enthusiastic Youth Support Worker to join one of our partnering secondary schools in the Newport area. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people, helping them overcome barriers, and making a positive impact on their school experience.
You will be working with pupils aged 11–16, providing academic, emotional, and behavioural support inside the classroom. The school is looking for someone who can build strong relationships, act as a role model, and offer guidance to students who may require additional support.
Responsibilities
Supporting students on a 1:1 and small‑group basis Assisting with behaviour management and emotional regulation Encouraging engagement in lessons and school activities Helping pupils develop confidence, resilience, and life skills Working closely with pastoral, safeguarding and SEN teams Providing classroom support where needed Maintaining a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment
What We’re Looking For
Experience working with young people (school, youth work, mentoring, sports coaching, care or similar) Strong communication and relationship‑building skills A calm, patient and supportive approach Ability to motivate and encourage pupils Resilience and confidence in managing challenging situations A valid DBS (or willingness to obtain one)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
