As a Scientist, Intertek are currently recruiting for a motivated, technically proficient and experienced scientist to join their expanding team in Manchester. Primarily, the role will operate as an independent and accountable member of the Technical Team within the Laboratory, delivering high-quality analytical data, supporting method development and validation activities, and contributing to technical problem solving across a range of client programmes. You will also play a key role in mentoring junior scientists and collaborating cross-functionally, while building strong client relationships and supporting delivery excellence. IT literate Strong numeracy skills with the ability to accurately calculate, evaluate and interpret complex analytical data Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information effectively Strong knowledge and practical application of GxP standards (GLP/GMP) and Quality Management Systems Significant experience working within a GMP or regulated pharmaceutical laboratory environment Strong hands‑on expertise in chromatographic and macromolecular techniques, including HPLC and SEC‑MALS (A4F MALS advantageous) Experience in method development, optimisation and validation Experience working with large molecules and proteins Ability to independently generate, interpret and critically evaluate analytical data Experience supporting laboratory investigations, troubleshooting and identifying data anomalies Experience mentoring or supporting junior scientists Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures, performance standards, handling chemicals and COSHH Degree level qualification (BSc/MSc/PhD) in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g. Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field) Customer focused with exposure to client‑facing laboratory environments
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY On a daily basis, you will perform both routine and complex analytical activities, including method execution, development and optimisation using advanced analytical techniques within a GMP laboratory. Working within a collaborative and technically advanced team, you will contribute to complex pharmaceutical programmes, applying scientific reasoning and problem‑solving skills to deliver high-quality data and client outcomes. Key activities
Operate as a technically proficient scientist, generating accurate and reliable analytical data Perform method development, optimisation and validation activities Interpret, review and evaluate complex analytical datasets Apply scientific knowledge and literature review to solve analytical challenges Act as a technical reviewer, supporting data quality and compliance Identify and investigate anomalies, contributing to root cause analysis Follow and interpret complex analytical methods within established GMP procedures Plan and organise workload effectively to meet deadlines across multiple projects Collaborate cross‑functionally and communicate effectively with internal teams and clients Support training and mentoring of junior scientists Demonstrate a proactive, solution‑focused mindset with increasing autonomy Work priorities agreed with Laboratory Manager and leadership team
