Role Overview
A well-regarded (Ofsted “Good”) secondary school near the New Forest in Southampton is seeking a Science Graduate to join their Science department on a long-term basis. This role is ideal for a recent Science graduate who is keen to gain hands-on, in-school experience and is considering teacher training in the near future.
You will work closely with experienced Science teachers, supporting practical lessons and becoming an integral part of the department. This is an excellent opportunity to build classroom confidence, understand curriculum delivery, and gain valuable exposure before progressing into a PGCE, School Direct, or other teacher training route.
The position starts as soon as possible and will run until the end of July 2026, covering a long-term staff absence.
Your Role in the Science Department
You’ll be embedded within a supportive and collaborative Science team, with responsibilities including:
Supporting teachers during KS3 and KS4 Science lessons (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics)
Preparing, setting up, and clearing away equipment for practical experiments
Assisting with demonstrations and practical activities in lessons
Ensuring equipment and materials are used and stored safely in line with health & safety guidance
Helping maintain clean, organised, and safe laboratory spaces
Managing resources and supporting stock checks of Science materials
Gaining exposure to classroom management, lesson structure, and teaching practice
This role offers day-to-day interaction with students and teaching staff, making it an excellent stepping stone into education.

Who We’re Looking For
A Science graduate (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or related degree)
An interest in education and a potential future career in teaching
Confident, organised, and enthusiastic about working in a school setting
A proactive and professional attitude with strong communication skills
Willingness to support students and teachers in a practical learning environment
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
Previous school experience is desirable but not essential – the right attitude and subject knowledge are key.
