About Us

The UCL Institute for Global Health (IGH) is at the heart of UCL’s Grand Challenge of Global Health. The Institute’s vision is for a world where international policy on global health is informed by world-class research. IGH aims to support the development of robust solutions to aspects of the world’s major global health challenges through scholarly outputs, education, public engagement, translational research, and ultimately by influencing public policy and professional practice.

We are seeking to appoint a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to join the Environmental and Community Health Centre to work on a new NIHR-funded fellowship in the field of climate change and health entitled “Health, socioeconomic, and environmental risk factors for heat-related mortality and hospital admission”.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a fellowship that will have a significant impact on health protection in England and allow close collaboration with the Met Office, NHS England, the ONS, and the UKHSA.

About The Role

The candidate should have a background in epidemiology, medical statistics, public health or similar, and have knowledge of climate change adaptation and mitigation priorities for the UK. The candidate should be experienced in conducting quantitative research and applying spatio-temporal epidemiologic methods, ideally to environmental health data including climate data analysis.

The post-holder will be supervised by Dr Ana-Catarina Pinho-Gomes and will be expected to work closely with the project partners.

This is a part-time role (i.e. 0.8 FTE, 29.2 hours per week) based at the Institute for Global Health, UCL. The role is available immediately until 2029.

A job description and person specification can be accessed at the bottom of this page.

Salary range: £44,480 to £51,860 per annum (including London Allowance) depending on experience, pro-rata for part-time staff.

There is also a £3,000 budget for courses/conferences in keeping with individual PDP and learning needs.

If you have any queries about the role, please contact Dr Ana-Catarina Pinho-Gomes on a.pinho-gomes@ucl.ac.uk.

If you need reasonable adjustments or a more accessible format to apply for this job online or have any queries about the application process, please contact the IGH HR Team on IGH.HR@ucl.ac.uk.

About You

It is essential that the successful candidate has a PhD or equivalent working experience in a field related to climate data analysis and environmental health epidemiology and they possess excellent interpersonal skills, including diplomacy and discretion, and the ability to liaise appropriately and effectively (remotely and in person) with staff and external individuals at any level of seniority.

The role requires that the post holder has in-depth knowledge and experience of undertaking environmental epidemiology research, including climate data and GIS analysis. Previous experience of collecting and analysing qualitative/quantitative data in the context of environmental epidemiology and climate data analysis is also required.

The ideal candidate will have experience in conducting literature reviews, preparing reports and presentations and a strong understanding and experience of R and Python software.
