Registered Manager - Tier 4 step down Service for Children (OFSTED)Brook Street Social Care are working closely with a provider who is setting up a therapeutic community across South London. They are committed to providing safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environments where children and young people can heal, grow, and thrive. We are currently seeking a passionate and motivated Registered Manager, for a brand new Tier 4 residential home for Children. Service Context This home provides specialist therapeutic residential care for adolescents (12-18) presenting with complex emotional and mental health needs, including self-harm, suicidal ideation, trauma-related behaviours and autism with co-morbid mental health difficulties. The service operates as a high-support step-down provision from CAMHS inpatient settings and aims to reduce readmission through relational containment, structured care planning and robust risk management. The home is regulated by Ofsted under the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015. Essential QualificationsLevel 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (or working towards)Minimum 3 years' experience as a Registered ManagerTrack record of leading a children's home rated Good or Outstanding by Ofsted Essential Experience 1 Complex Behaviour & Risk ManagementProven experience managing homes supporting young people who present with:Recurrent self-harmSuicidal ideationEmotional dysregulationTrauma-related behavioursExperience implementing and auditing:Self-harm reduction protocolsEnvironmental risk assessmentsIndividualised crisis and safety plansAbility to evidence safe management of high-risk incidents 2 Ligature & Environmental Safety OversightExperience managing ligature reduction environmentsKnowledge of:Environmental risk gradingAdaptive risk management without creating institutional settingsAbility to balance therapeutic homeliness with safety complianceExperience reviewing incident patterns and environmental modifications 3 Restrictive Practice & Deprivation of LibertyStrong understanding of:Regulation 16 (Restraint & Restriction of Liberty)Distinction between restriction, restraint and deprivation of libertyExperience managing placements requiring:Court-authorised deprivation of libertyEnhanced supervision levelsDynamic risk-based staffing increasesDemonstrable ability to ensure all restrictive practices are lawful, proportionate and clearly recorded 4 Crisis Management LeadershipExperience leading teams during acute crisis episodesClear incident debrief and learning cultureAbility to stabilise teams under emotional pressureEvidence of reducing placement breakdown through effective risk leadership 5 Joint Working & External InterfaceExperience of structured joint working with:CAMHS teamsInpatient discharge coordinatorsSouth West London ICB or equivalentExperience participating in:Multi-agency risk meetingsDischarge planningFunding panels where health contributions are requiredAbility to confidently present risk profiles to commissioners 6 Autism & Mental Health Co-MorbidityExperience supporting autistic young people with:Emotional dysregulationSensory vulnerabilitiesAnxiety and self-harm overlayExperience implementing neuro-affirming behavioural approachesUnderstanding of how MH presentation differs in neurodivergent adolescents Safe Staffing & Operational Oversight The postholder must demonstrate:Experience setting safe staffing ratios for high-acuity placementsManaging solo placements safelyRotas aligned to dynamic riskStrong supervision and competency oversight of staffClear audit systems for:Incident reportingBehaviour trendsRestrictive practice reviewRegulation 44 and 45 compliance Leadership CompetenciesStrong Ofsted inspection historyAbility to evidence quality assurance and monitoring systemsClear safeguarding judgement in complex MH contextsStrong boundary between therapeutic care and medical responsibilityEmotionally regulated leadership styleHigh staff accountability culture DesirableExperience opening or re-registering a new children's homeAdditional training in trauma-informed or DBT-informed approachesExperience in services working closely with NHS/ICB funding streamsExperience managing step-down placements from Tier 4 inpatient unitsIf this is a role you wish to explore further, please hit the apply button now!
