Job Description

Location: London/Hertfordshire\n\nSalary: £40,000 - £50,000\n\nWorking Hours: Monday – Friday (8am-5pm)\n\nJob Code: MJ2222\n\nQuantity Surveyor\n\nDo you have experience in construction, or are you looking to build your career in the sector? My client is a premier London-based facade contractor currently undergoing rapid expansion. Due to this growth, they are looking for an enthusiastic Quantity Surveyor to join their dynamic team and play a key role in their high-profile architectural projects.\n\nThe ideal candidate will have a sharp eye for detail to drive the profitability of their facade division.\n\nYou will be responsible for safeguarding project margins through expert budget management, proactive risk assessment, and precise commercial reporting, while maintaining strong subcontractor and tendering relationships.\n\nYou will work primarily from the London office or 2 days in London and 2 days in Hertfordshire, with remote work available every Friday.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\n * Orchestrate project cash flows, including budget creation, profitability forecasting, and the delivery of comprehensive monthly reports to the Board of Directors.\n\n * Perform rigorous analysis of drawings, specifications, and scopes to proactively identify commercial risks and strategic opportunities.\n\n * Evaluate and price project variations, ensuring all scope changes are accurately captured and commercially leveraged.\n\n * Lead the end-to-end procurement process for subcontractors and key suppliers - from initial inquiry and rigorous evaluation to final contract negotiation.\n\n * Drive project cost control and manage commercial risk profiles to protect project margins.\n\n * Act as a key commercial link between design teams, site management, clients, and principal contractors to ensure full contractual compliance.\n\n * Champion value engineering initiatives and commercial optimisation to enhance project delivery and profitability.\n\nEssential Skills/Requirements:\n\n * Degree or diploma in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field Proven experience in Estimating or QS in the Construction Industry (Subcontractor level)\n\n * Demonstrate experience in reviewing, assessing and summarising construction design drawings, specifications, consultants reports and other projects design information\n\n * Working experience in cost planning projects based on construction programmes including allowances for attendances and preliminaries\n\n * Ability to interpret drawings, contracts (JCT/NEC), and specifications\n\n * Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies in drawings, measurements, and costings.\n\n * Strong analytical and numerical proficiency with the ability to conduct accurate take-offs and comprehensive cost modelling\n\nPreferable Skills/Requirements:\n\n * Full UK driving licence\n\n * Familiarity with facade systems and materials (e.g., cladding, curtain walling, rainscreen systems)\n\n * Previous experience working with subcontractor packages or procurement\n\n * Experience with site-based roles or internships in construction is a plus\n\nBenefits:\n\n * 22 days holiday + bank holidays + Christmas shutdown\n\n * Onsite Gym, Perk Box, Virtual GP Service\n\n * Paid day off on your birthday\n\n * Direct in-person training and ongoing support\n\n * Onsite parking, casual-smart dress code, great in-house coffee & snacks\n\n * Friday's remote working\n\n * Company Laptop\n\n*Despite our best efforts it is not always possible to respond to every application individually due to the high volume of responses we receive on each vacancy.\n\n**Only candidates who are short listed will be contacted for this particular role and if you have not heard from us within 7 days please assume that you have not been successful.
