Job description:
We are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor in the Cambridgeshire area.
The successful candidate will be joining a growing civils and groundworks team. You will play a key role in pricing works, managing commercial risk, and supporting the delivery of profitable projects.
This role suits a commercially aware individual with strong knowledge of civils and groundworks from a subcontractor perspective, capable of working independently while supporting senior management.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating
* Prepare accurate and competitive tenders for civils and groundworks packages
* Undertake take-offs from drawings and specifications
* Assess risk, opportunities, and value engineering options
* Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations
Commercial Management
* Prepare and submit valuations and applications for payment
* Manage variations, including identification, pricing, and negotiation
* Assist with cost control and reporting throughout the project lifecycle
* Support cash flow forecasting and commercial planning
Data & Systems
* Build, maintain, and develop an estimating and cost database
* Carry out cross-analysis of historical project data to improve future tenders
* Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating procedures
General
* Work closely with project teams, directors, and clients
* Ensure commercial compliance with contracts and company procedures
* Manage multiple tenders while meeting strict deadlines
Key Skills & Experience
Essential
* Strong knowledge of civils and groundworks (subcontractor experience )
* Proven experience in estimating and quantity surveying
* Excellent time management and organisational skills
* Strong numerical, analytical, and commercial awareness
* Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
* Confident communication and negotiation skills
Desirable
* Experience with NEC or JCT contracts
* Familiarity with UK construction procurement processes
* Experience in cost reporting and forecasting
Senior QS / Progression
This role offers progression to Senior Quantity Surveyor, with career development as far as you would like to go, based on performance and ambition.
