Job Title: Purchasing Manager
Location: Huddersfield
Salary: £45,000 – £50,000 per annum
About the Role:
We’re working on behalf of a growing manufacturing business to recruit a commercially minded Purchasing Manager with experience in commodity-based materials.
This standalone role is ideal for someone who thrives on autonomy, knows when to play the market, and is confident managing a £6–7m procurement portfolio. You’ll lead on all purchasing decisions across timber and pallet supply, negotiate supplier terms, and develop purchasing policies that support both operational efficiency and long-term cost savings.
This is a hands-on position requiring a tenacious, detail-driven approach – perfect for someone who wants to take full ownership and make a tangible impact across the business.
Key Responsibilities:
Take ownership of procurement across timber and associated materials
Build strong supplier relationships, negotiate commercial terms, and ensure continuity of supply
Monitor market trends and commodity pricing to make timely, strategic buying decisions
Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives while maintaining quality and supply
Develop and formalise procurement policies, reporting processes, and systems
Work closely with operational and commercial teams to ensure alignment with wider business needs
Manage stock levels and procurement schedules in line with operational demand
Candidate Profile:
Proven background in procurement or buying, ideally in timber, packaging, or commodities
Commercially astute and confident managing market-driven decisions
Tenacious, organised, and self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously
Strong relationship builder with excellent negotiation skills
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
Process-oriented, with the ability to introduce structure and reporting where needed
