A market-leading plant hire business is seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to take ownership of its procurement function at Head Office in Chesterfield. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a long-established, highly respected organisation operating at scale across the UK. With a fleet of over 2,200 items of plant and equipment, a workforce exceeding 180 staff, and a network of 9 UK depots, this business has built a reputation over more than 60 years for reliability, service excellence, and operational strength. The Role Reporting directly into the Managing and Operations Directors, you will lead and develop the purchasing function to ensure the efficient, cost-effective and sustainable acquisition of parts, equipment, and services. Your work will directly impact fleet availability, safety, environmental performance, and overall operational success. This is a hands-on, strategic role offering genuine influence across the business. Key Responsibilities Develop, manage, and maintain a strong network of Approved Suppliers Build and negotiate Supply Agreements Implement and manage robust risk management strategies to ensure continuity of critical supplies Ensure all purchasing and procurement processes are efficient, compliant, and cost-effective Align procurement activity with the company’s Quality Management Systems Drive continuous improvement across purchasing and supply chain operations About You To succeed in this role, you must have: Proven experience purchasing plant, equipment, and associated parts within the construction or plant hire sector Strong exposure to equipment such as rollers, pavers, excavators, loading shovels, dumpers, and similar A solid track record of success in a similar purchasing or procurement leadership role Excellent commercial awareness, leadership capability, and negotiation skills Confident decision-making and communication abilities A proactive, improvement-focused mindset A full UK driving licence Package & Benefits Competitive salary (dependent on experience and qualifications) Company car Discretionary annual bonus Employer pension contribution Life assurance Long-term career opportunity within a stable, growing business If you're a commercially driven Purchasing Manager looking to make a real impact within a well-established operation, I’d love to hear from you.
