Key role objective The principal function of this position is to lead WJ’s water management projects and site operations, ensuring technical excellence, commercial performance, and effective client engagement. Building strong, collaborative relationships with clients at all levels is essential to WJ’s long-term success. Key relationships Drilling & Yard Managers and fellow Project Managers, HR Manager and their admin support team, UK Managing Director and WJ Group Chief Operations Officer (Coaching & Mentorship) Responsibilities Carry out project management duties: Lead by example to champion a proactive safety, health & environmental (SHE) culture, implementing safe working practices across all operational levels. Brief, check, audit and support site teams to ensure adherence to safe and effective working practices. Deliver WJ’s contractual obligations in line with directives from the Operations Manager. Supervise site operations and liaise with clients’ site staff, supervisory staff, subcontractors, and suppliers. Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation of WJ’s contractual activities including the collection, collation, and presentation of monitoring data and project records. Perform project management and dissemination responsibilities, including drafting regular progress reports as required and participating in internal and external project meetings. Prepare Method Statements, Risk Assessments, Working/Technical drawings and works procedures. Appoint, brief, and coordinate the WJ site teams and specialist subcontractors. Define the project program and ensure contractual targets are met. Prepare, issue, and negotiate monthly payment applications. Undertake and support business development activities through site visits, collection of information, client engagement, discussing client requirements, pursuing tenders, and assisting with preparation of tenders and quotations. Directly line manage WJ site and monitoring staff. Liaise with the company auditors and ensure execution of corrective actions. Collaborate across UK business units-including Accounts, HR, SHE, design/technical, sales/marketing, drilling, monitoring and environmental services to build strong cross-functional relationships and support financial objectives. Qualifications & Experience A motivated and hardworking individual with good written and communication skills is essential. Degree (or equivalent) in relevant engineering discipline. Minimum 5 years’ project and site management experience in the construction industry or similar environment. Holds valid CSCS card Holds valid Site Managers Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certification Strong technical understanding of Hydrogeology, Engineering Geology or Civil Engineering. Comprehensive experience supervising geotechnical works, including use of the ‘observational method’. Client facing experience with confidence in stakeholder engagement Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to interpret technical data and regulations High standard of written English and ability to draft accurate, professional documentation Organised and dependable, able to manage personal and team workloads under tight deadlines Proven ability to manage site teams and subcontractors in demanding environments Self-motivated, resourceful, and capable of working independently on challenging sites Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant digital tools. Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex or sensitive information clearly is an essential requirement Flexible to travel across the UK to various project sites and WJ facilities. Full UK Driving License Working Conditions Primarily based at head office, the role includes regular UK site visits for meetings, walkovers, inductions, and project briefings. During probation, the postholder may be site-based to support skill development under the guidance of other Project Managers. Activities on site are carried out in dynamic outdoor environments, including busy construction zones, excavations, tunnels, adits and shafts with strict adherence to safety, health & environmental (SHE) regulations.
