Project Engineer (Design & Certification)\n\nPortsmouth, UK | Aerospace Manufacturing | Permanent\n\nOur client is an established aerospace manufacturer designing and producing mission‑critical aircraft equipment used globally across commercial and defence applications. Operating in a highly regulated environment, they are driven by safety, quality, and engineering excellence within a rapidly evolving industry.\n\nDue to continued growth, our client is seeking a Project Engineer to join their Design Engineering team, taking ownership of the development and certification of new aerospace products from concept through to final approval and delivery.\n\nThe Role\n\nThe Project Engineer will lead engineering projects across the full product lifecycle, acting as a key technical interface between customers, regulatory authorities, suppliers, and internal stakeholders. This role sits at the intersection of design, certification, manufacturing, and quality, ensuring technically robust and certifiable solutions.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nTranslate customer and regulatory requirements into compliant technical solutions and certification strategies\nSupport bids and sales activity through technical proposals, compliance matrices, and feasibility assessments\nDesign and develop aerospace products using 2D/3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar)\nLead certification activities, including test plans, qualification testing, and compliance documentation\nCollaborate closely with manufacturing to ensure design for manufacture, cost efficiency, and production readiness\nProvide engineering support to production and quality teams, including non‑conformance resolution and root cause analysis\nCoordinate with suppliers on development, qualification, and testing activities\nParticipate in project reviews, customer meetings, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives\n\nRequired Experience & Skills\n\nProven experience in design and certification engineering, ideally within aerospace\nStrong working knowledge of certification standards (e.g.
EASA / FAA / CAA, DO‑160, CS‑27 / CS‑29)\nSolid understanding of aerospace materials, manufacturing processes, and design for manufacture\nProficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, or equivalent)\nExperience with GD&T and detailed technical drawings\nStrong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail\nAbility to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast‑paced environment\n\nDesirable Experience\n\nRoot cause analysis methodologies (e.g. 8D, 5 Whys, Ishikawa)\nLean / Six Sigma exposure\nFamiliarity with PLM and ERP systems\nExperience working in Part 21 and/or Part 145 approved environments\n\nEducation\n\nBachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent)\n\nWhy Join?\n\nOpportunity to work on mission‑critical aerospace products\nExposure to a high‑growth, international manufacturing environment\nCollaborative, engineering‑led culture\nCompetitive benefits package, including pension, health schemes, and flexible working (9‑day fortnight)
