Who are we?
Within the @one Alliance, we are a collaborative organization comprising eight partner companies (Anglian Water, Balfour Beatty, Barhale, Binnies, MMB, MWH Treatment, Skanska, and SWECO) and our extended supply chain. We deliver over half of Anglian Water’s capital investment programme.
As we prepare for our most ambitious Asset Management Period yet, known as AMP 8, we will undertake a larger programme of work than ever before. We are driving change, setting global benchmarks, and building a better environment, while offering growth and development opportunities for our workforce. We aim to build on our existing teams with a focus on career progression.
To enhance our ability to develop an optimal programme portfolio, we are seeking a talented Project Commercial Manager.
As we enter this exciting and challenging period for the water industry, maintaining industry-leading commercial and cost management processes is essential to ensure we not only deliver but outperform our objectives and meet customer expectations.
What will you be doing as our new Project Commercial Manager?
You will be responsible for the commercial and cost management of a project or programme, reporting directly to an Integrated Projects Leader (IPL). Your role will involve ensuring maximum efficiencies and full compliance with all alliance and Anglian Water governance procedures, providing commercial challenge to the IPL and team on all project matters.
Key responsibilities:
Management of Commercials:
- Providing robust estimates aligned with project scope.
- Supporting commercial and procurement strategies with Senior Buyers to ensure proper tender processes.
- Preparing and managing subcontracts in accordance with the contract scope.
Robust Cost Management:
- Providing accurate live forecasts considering the project programme.
- Monitoring actual costs against estimates and challenging variances.
- Reporting on costs versus estimates and analyzing reasons for variances.
Contract Management:
- Administering the alliance contract properly.
- Issuing early warnings and advising on compliance issues.
- Maintaining records for audits and cost assurance.
- Preparing final accounts timely and accurately.
Project and Programme Risk:
- Implementing mitigation plans.
- Managing opportunities and efficiencies.
- Reporting variances and progress to the IPL.
Team Leadership:
- Leading and managing a small team.
- Mentoring and developing team members.
Skills, Experience, and Behaviours:
Ideally, you’ll be educated to degree level and hold RICS/CIOB/CICES certification. You should have experience managing complex projects, including multi-million-pound projects. Skills in working with NEC contracts, negotiation, estimating, stakeholder management, and acting with integrity are essential. You should be proactive, adaptable to change, and able to lead and support your team effectively.
