Product Manager – Precision Optics / Advanced Instrumentation

Location: Leicester

Salary: £60,000 – £70,000 + benefits


We are partnering with global engineering business recognised for designing and manufacturing high-precision instrumentation used across optics, aerospace, research, semiconductor and advanced manufacturing sectors.


As part of their continued expansion in high-growth technology markets, they are seeking an experienced Product Manager to lead the lifecycle of a specialist optics-related product portfolio.

The Role

You will define product strategy, shape the roadmap, and lead cross-functional teams across the UK and Europe to bring complex, high-performance products to market. Working closely with R&D, applications, sales, and marketing, you’ll champion customer needs and ensure products meet technical, commercial and market expectations.


This role blends deep technical understanding with strategic thinking and customer interaction.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Drive full product lifecycle activity including research, competitive analysis, roadmap and product launch.
  • Translate strategy into detailed technical requirements for engineering teams.
  • Develop business cases, market insight, ROI justifications and value propositions.
  • Conduct market and customer analysis to shape sales strategies and product positioning.
  • Collaborate closely with R&D, production, quality and marketing to deliver successful releases.
  • Provide customer-facing product expertise including demonstrations, sample evaluations and data analysis.


About You

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Optical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in precision engineering, optics, photonics, scientific instrumentation or related high-tech sectors.
  • Strong understanding of optics manufacturing and metrology principles.
  • Experience in product management or adjacent product/project leadership roles.
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to influence cross-functional and international teams.
  • Willingness to travel internationally as required.
