Product and Experience Design Manager
London - 2x days per week
£75,000 - £85,000 per annum +benefits
Permanent
A well‑established, purpose‑driven membership organisation is embarking on a significant technology and digital transformation and is seeking an experienced Product and Experience Design Manager to lead the evolution of its product and design capability. This is a pivotal leadership role, offering the opportunity to shape a truly product‑led culture while improving outcomes for members, students, and internal users.
You'll play a critical role in moving the organisation from a relatively immature product environment to a more mature, value‑driven, and user‑centred model. Balancing strategic direction with hands‑on delivery, you'll set the standards for product excellence while actively engaging in prioritisation, backlog management, and day‑to‑day product decision‑making.
The Role
As Product and Experience Design Manager, you'll lead a multidisciplinary team across product ownership, analysis, and experience design. You'll define and drive a clear product vision and ensure best‑practice product and design thinking is embedded across the delivery lifecycle.
This role requires someone who is product‑first, pragmatic, and confident rolling up their sleeves - shaping roadmaps, refining backlogs, and ensuring priorities are aligned to customer value, organisational strategy, and technical sustainability.
Key responsibilities include:
Owning and evolving the product vision, experience strategy, and roadmap across digital and enterprise platforms
Driving a shift from an immature product environment to one underpinned by clear frameworks, consistent ways of working, and measurable outcomes
Leading end‑to‑end prioritisation, ensuring backlogs focus on value, user impact, and reduction of technical debt
Embedding strong product management and user‑centred design practices into discovery, delivery, and continuous improvement
Line managing and developing Product Owners, Analysts, and Experience Designers, creating a high‑performing and collaborative team culture
Championing the voice of the user through research, data, and continuous feedback loops
Establishing governance around product, design quality, accessibility, and experience consistency
Working closely with Engineering, Delivery, Architecture, and senior stakeholders to balance innovation, optimisation, and platform health
We're seeking a confident and hands‑on product leader who brings:
A strong product‑first mindset, with proven experience leading product and design in complex organisations
Demonstrated success taking teams and organisations from low product maturity to more mature, product‑led ways of working
Experience owning roadmaps, managing backlogs, and making clear, evidence‑based prioritisation decisions
A background leading multidisciplinary teams across product management, UX/UI, and analysis
Deep understanding of user‑centred design, accessibility, and experience best practices
Confidence operating in evolving or ambiguous environments, bringing clarity and structure where needed
Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels
Experience working in agile or product‑led delivery environments
This is an excellent opportunity to shape how product thinking, experience design, and customer value are embedded across the organisation. Joining at a time of meaningful transformation, you'll have genuine influence over how products are conceived, prioritised, and delivered for years to come
