We are seeking a Principal/Senior Consultant (Surface Water).

Description of Responsibilities:

Join to help solve complex water challenges on global engineering and mining projects as aPrincipal / Senior Consultant – Surface WaterwithSRK ConsultinginCardiff (Hybrid).

SRK is anemployee-owned, international consultancy working at the intersection ofwater, environment, naturalresourcesand infrastructure, with a strongtrack recordin the global mining and minerals sector. OurUK office, based inCardiff (approximately150 people) works closely with colleagues across the Americas, Africa, Asia and Australia,advisinginvestors, operators,governmentsand insurers on complex,high impactprojects.

The opportunity:

We’reseeking an experiencedSenior or Principal Surface Water Specialistto take a key technical andclient facingrole in our UK Water Group (part of SRK’sGeoenvironmentalDepartment, alongside ESG and Geochemistry).

You’llwork on projects from due diligence andearly-stagescoping through design,operationsand closure, including:

  • Hydrological and hydraulic studies (rainfall–runoff, flood, drainage, stormwater).
  • Mine water management and integrated water management plans.
  • Design inputs for channels, culverts,impoundmentsand other surface water infrastructure.
  • Hydrological / hydraulicmodelling, including data analysis, model build,calibrationand validation.
  • Climate andclimate changeanalysis

You’lloften lead the surface water workstream inmultidisciplinary teams, working with geotechnical, civil, ESG and hydrogeology specialists in the UK and overseas, with opportunities forinternational travel and site visits, including remote locations.

Key responsibilities:

  • Act astechnicalleadfor surface water on complex, multidisciplinary studies.
  • Manage and deliver projects– scope, budget,program,qualityand client communication.
  • Build andmaintainclient relationshipsand support business development.
  • Represent SRK inmeetings, workshops,reviewsand audits.
  • Mentor,supportand reviewthe work of junior and midlevel staff, and contribute to thought leadership.

Aboutyou-Essential:

  • Degree (or equivalent) inCivil/Environmental Engineering, Water Resources,Hydrologyor related discipline.
  • Strongtrack recordinsurface water / hydrologyon complex mining, industrial or infrastructure projects.
  • Excellentteamwork,leadershipandclient-facingskills.
  • Stronganalytical skills– confident with complex data,modelsand uncertainty, and able to explain results clearly.
  • Clear, concisetechnical writing and verbal communication.
  • Experience in severalof:climate /climate changeanalysis; stormwater or site/mine water plans; design and sizing of surface water features; hydrological/hydraulic modelling.

Mining experience isadvantageous, but we welcome candidates frombroader water,infrastructureor industrial backgroundswith strong transferable skills and an interest in the mining sector.

  • Chartered statusor equivalent professional recognition (or clear progression towards it).
  • Experience withHECHMS, HECRASor equivalent, and with hydrological monitoring networks.
  • Familiarity withstochastic water balance / systems models(e.g.GoldSim) and resourceoptimization.
  • Data science skills (e.g.Python, R, MATLAB), asecond language, and/or dam breach analysis experience.
