Job Title: Principal Radiation Physicist

What you’ll be doing:
\n
\n Supervising and conducting analysis and experiments to support system qualification \n
Supporting progression of design optimisation \n
Producing and reviewing radiological safety justifications for proposed design solutions \n
Direct development of in-house toolsets in support of the department goals \n
Leading detailed shield design, balancing build requirements alongside system performance requirements \n
\n
Your skills and experiences:
\n
Essential:
\n
\n Relevant STEM degree in Physics/Mathematics/Chemistry/Nuclear Engineering \n
Demonstrable experience of radiation transport codes such as MCNP/MCBEND/Attilla \n
Understanding of radiation physics \n
Experience of radiation safety studies & behaviours \n
Experience of radiation metrology \n
Knowledge of the ALARP principle \n
\n
Desirable:
\n
\n Experience of managing technical projects \n
\n

The Radiation Physics & Shielding team
\n
Our team is responsible for the design and validation of radiation shielding for the UK’s nuclear powered submarine fleet. We are engaged across three different submarine programmes in different stages of the engineering lifecycle designing new shields, providing design change assessment into the build programme, and conducting radiation metrology on-board during commissioning. Alongside our primary work we conduct radiological safety studies for several other areas, design novel radiation detectors and are developing capability in the field of radiation damage to electronics. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
