Location: Birmingham (Solihull) Salary: Competitive DOE Hours: Mon-Thu 8am-5pm | Fri 8am-3pm Reports to: Head of Design
The Company
A leading organisation in the commercial decarbonisation sector is seeking a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer. The company specialises in the design, development, and delivery of offsite‑prefabricated energy systems and provides sustainable, low‑carbon solutions across public and commercial sectors.
The Role
The Principal Mechanical Design Engineer will take ownership of mechanical design delivery from concept through to commissioning. You will work closely with fabrication, project management, BIM, and commissioning teams to ensure accurate, coordinated, and build‑ready solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Managing the mechanical design delivery for a range of commercial decarbonisation projects Producing mechanical design outputs including: Schematics Engineering calculations Plant selections Bills of materials Project specifications Developing and validating BMS control strategies, from design through to on‑site verification Working with internal teams to ensure seamless integration from planning to construction Supporting and mentoring junior engineers within the design team
About You
Experience & Skills Required
Strong background in mechanical design engineering Experience delivering full mechanical design packages Understanding of commercial mechanical systems and decarbonisation‑focused solutions Ability to manage design delivery across multiple project stages Strong collaboration and communication skills Ability to support and mentor junior team members
