Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Principal Electrical (EC&I) Commissioning Engineer to support a major defence project at a secure, highly regulated site near Reading. This is a senior, site-based role requiring a high level of technical expertise, leadership, and experience in commissioning, testing, and assurance of electrical and control systems within safety-critical environments.\n\nRole: Principal Electrical (EC&I) Commissioning Engineer\nLocation: Reading (site-based)\nRate: £70 per hour Inside IR35 (Based on year's experience)\nEmployment Type: Contract 12 Months\nKey Responsibilities \n·Lead and oversee the commissioning, testing, and validation of electrical and EC&I systems on a complex defence project and provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior commissioning engineers and site teams. \n·Develop, review, and approve commissioning strategies, test procedures, and method statements, alongside supervising functional testing, fault finding, and troubleshooting of complex electrical and control systems.
\n·Ensure all commissioning activities comply with project requirements, CDM regulations, and site safety procedures. \n·Produce and review high-quality technical reports, test records, and handover documentation and lead technical reviews, progress meetings, and commissioning coordination sessions. \n·Support the resolution of technical issues, non-conformances, and commissioning shortfalls while acting as a key technical interface between commissioning, design, construction, and safety teams.
\n\nEssential Experience & Skills \n·Proven experience in a Principal Electrical / EC&I Commissioning Engineer role within a highly regulated industry (defence, nuclear, petrochemical, utilities, or similar) \n·Strong technical knowledge of electrical and control system commissioning processes, standards, and best practice \n·Demonstrable experience leading commissioning activities on complex projects \n·In-depth understanding of CDM regulations and formal permit-to-work systems \n·Ability to interpret and challenge electrical designs, schematics, and control system documentation \n·Strong fault-finding and problem-solving capability on complex systems\n\nPlease note that this role requires UK Security Clearance. \nIf you are qualified and interested, please apply or email: (url removed)
