Principal Design Engineer (Primary)\nLeeds, Stowmarket, Birmingham, Catterick, United Kingdom, Hybrid\n\nPermanent – Full Time\n\nCompetitive (DOE) + Car/ Car Allowance & Flexible Benefits\n\n \n\nSummary:\n\nFreedom Professional Services are looking for a Principal Primary Design Engineer to join our growing team and work on an array of complex and challenging engineering projects, helping to deliver the country’s Net Zero targets! Our projects span the complete energy system from , transmission, distribution and storage to load-end consumers in manufacturing, processing, data and recycling. \n\n \n\nThe successful candidate will act as the head of the Primary design team, providing leadership, mentorship and line management for the members of the team.
Team leaders will generally lead a team of 3+ staff from similar technical disciplines and head a Sub-Business Unit in the Freedom Professional Services business. \n\n \n\n \n\nSome of the key deliverables in this role will include:\n\nBe a team lead who can undertake client meetings, business development activities, act as technical authority within the team, mentor and coach the team members. \n\nDeliver substation primary plant and cable design projects to targeted levels of quality, timeliness and profitability.
\n\nUndertake Transmission and Distribution level designs, in line with DNO and Grid standards. \n\nDeliver detailed Substation plant design, layouts, plant specifications, short[1]circuit calculations, cable system design calculations, TMF calculations, ancillary equipment selection and specification. \n\nUnderstand earthing design and system X/R ratios to accurately specify transformer NERs.
\n\nUndertake site survey works and guide the team around constructability issues. \n\nBe responsible for the design liability and risks associated with the correct primary design in relation to design change, compensation events, safe operability and maintenance, and alignment and adherence to industry and client standards and requirements. \n\nSeek out innovative solutions to technical problems \n\nLead the team on all primary plant design including transformers, GIS and AIS switchgear, Busbar and GIB, GIS cable termination through to MV AIS terminations, and other substation ancillary equipment, at all system voltages up to 400kV \n\nHave sound analytical and numeracy skills to reliably undertake primary design calculations.
\n\nHave a solid understanding of the interface requirements of the civil/structural and OHL aspects of HV substations \n\nIdentify any additional business development opportunities which may arise during project delivery \n\nPreparation, monitoring and delivery of cost budget for projects \n\nBe responsible for the project delivery independently from senior management, ensuring the primary design deliverables are met on time, and the project budget has been maintained. \n\nWriting technical proposals with good written English and grammar to produce high-quality basis of design documents, Design Intent Documents (DID), Project Execution Plans (PEP), contribute to BIM Execution Plans (BEP) \n\nCarrying out the role and responsibilities within the company’s SHEQ requirements and CDM2015 regulations. \n\nAct as a CDM2015 Principal designer where appropriate for large substation design projects in the electrical phase, understanding the requirements of the regulations, Principal Designer role, the role of designers and that of Principal Contractor and client\n\n \n\nDoes this sound like a role you have envisaged yourself in?\n\nWhat we’re looking for: \n\nWe are looking for highly motivated self-starters who are driven by a challenge and have a hunger to grow and build the technical capability of the organisation through their leadership and guidance.
