Adeptus Talent is recruiting for a Principal Design Engineer on behalf of their client, an innovative engineering company delivering sustainable technology that improves efficiency and reduces emissions across the maritime sector.


We are looking for an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to play a key role in the design and development of advanced mechanical systems that improve vessel efficiency and reduce emissions.


This is an opportunity to join a growing team where your ideas will directly influence real products from early concept design through to manufacture and deployment.


What You'll Be Doing:


  • Lead the mechanical design of key product systems and structures.
  • Take ownership of projects from concept through to production.
  • Carry out structural calculations, FEA analysis, and design validation.
  • Develop solutions that balance performance, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Ensure designs meet classification society standards (DNV, LR, NK etc.).
  • Work directly with approval bodies to secure certifications.
  • Support prototype builds, testing, and product improvements.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership.
  • Contribute to a culture of engineering excellence, safety, and innovation.


What We're Looking For:


  • Degree qualified in Mechanical, Structural, Marine, or Naval Architecture Engineering.
  • Experience designing marine or heavy engineering structures.
  • Strong CAD skills (Siemens NX, Inventor, SolidWorks or similar).
  • Experience with FEA, stress analysis, and structural calculations.
  • Knowledge of marine standards and classification approvals.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with high ownership.
  • Strong communication skills and leadership potential.


Desirable Experience:


  • Fatigue, buckling, or welded structure analysis.
  • Prototype testing and validation.
  • Design for Manufacture & Assembly (DFMA).
  • Renewable energy, marine innovation, or performance-driven products.
