Design Lead / Principal Design Engineer\n Location:Manchester (Hybrid Working)\n Employment Type: Permanent\n\nOverview\n\n An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Design Lead / Principal Design Engineer to take a senior technical leadership role within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.\n\nYou will lead design delivery across regulated infrastructure programmes, providing technical direction, ensuring design quality, and supporting the development of engineering teams.\n\nWhy This Role\n\nLead a multidisciplinary engineering team across major infrastructure projects\nInfluence technical standards and design quality\nLong-term pipeline of infrastructure work\nOpportunity to shape design capability and best practice\nSenior leadership position with real impact on delivery\nKey Responsibilities\n\nLead, mentor, and develop engineers, technicians, and junior staff across multiple disciplines\nAct as technical authority for design delivery and approvals\nOversee production of integrated design packages to quality, cost, and programme requirements\nEnsure compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and client requirements\nDrive safe, efficient, and value-engineered design solutions\nSupport use of digital engineering tools including BIM and 3D modelling\nInterpret and apply technical standards and updates\nManage design change control and documentation\nSupport planning and estimation of design activities\nPromote continuous improvement in design processes\nRequirements\n\nStrong experience in multidisciplinary engineering design in regulated environments\nExperience leading engineering teams and design delivery\nUnderstanding of civil, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control, and process interfaces\nChartered Engineer or working towards chartership\nExperience in structured engineering design environments\nStrong leadership and communication skills\nAbility to mentor and develop engineers\nDegree, HND, or equivalent engineering qualification\nFull UK driving licence \nAdditional Information\n\nExperience in water, utilities, or infrastructure sectors is \nExperience with BIM and digital design tools is advantageous\nStrong focus on quality, safety, and engineering excellence
