Principal Data Engineer (Azure / Databricks) Location: Remote (UK-based) with weekly client travel (expenses covered) Salary: £90,000 - £95,000 (DOE) + Bonus + BenefitsOur client is a high-growth, specialist data consultancy delivering enterprise-scale data platforms for leading organisations. They combine deep engineering expertise with a pragmatic, client-focused approach, helping businesses unlock value from modern cloud and data technologies.This role sits at the intersection of hands-on engineering, architecture, and client leadership, ideal for someone who can build, lead, and influence in equal measure.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and deliver scalable data platforms using Azure, Databricks, and Microsoft FabricOwn solution architecture, ensuring performance, security, and best practicesStay hands-on with Python (essential), Spark, and SQLLead client workshops ('Accelerate' engagements) and translate business needs into technical solutionsSet engineering standards (CI/CD, coding, testing, reusable frameworks)Manage technical delivery, risks, and project outcomesMentor engineers and act as a senior technical authoritySkills & ExperienceStrong Azure data platform experience (Databricks, Data Factory, Fabric, Synapse)Advanced Python skills (must-have) + Spark & SQLExperience building modern Lakehouse / distributed data architecturesStrong understanding of performance optimisation, governance, and cloud best practicesConsultancy or client-facing experience preferredConfident communicator - able to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholdersIf you're looking for a role where you can lead technically, stay hands-on, and work closely with clients on high-impact data solutions, this is a strong next step.*P.
