Principal Consultant – Commercial Due Diligence (Energy Flexibility & Energy Markets)


Private Equity–Backed Consultancy | Senior Leadership Role | London (Hybrid)


Our client is a highly regarded, PE-backed energy transition advisory firm with over 10 years’ experience supporting investors, utilities and technology businesses across the UK and Europe. With a strong commercial advisory reputation and an established client base, they are expanding their Commercial Due Diligence & Strategy practice and are now hiring a Principal Consultant to play a key role in their next phase of growth. Equity participation is available after the first year of employment.


The Role


As Principal Consultant, you will lead high-impact commercial due diligence, transaction support and strategic advisory engagements across:


  • Energy flexibility and demand-side response
  • Battery storage and DER optimisation
  • EV charging and smart energy
  • Smart grids, ancillary services and emerging flexibility markets


This is a senior leadership position where you will act as a trusted client advisor, lead project teams, and help scale the Commercial Advisory practice.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead buy-side and sell-side commercial due diligence for private equity and infrastructure investors
  • Deliver market assessments, competitive analysis and strategic growth projects
  • Advise C-suite stakeholders and investment committees on commercial risks and opportunities
  • Develop long-term client relationships and contribute to business development
  • Mentor and support consultants, contributing to methodology, frameworks and thought leadership
  • Play a central role in shaping the direction and growth of the Commercial Advisory practice


Candidate Profile

  • 4–7+ years in commercial due diligence, strategy consulting, transaction advisory, or energy market analysis
  • Strong understanding of UK/EU flexibility markets, storage, grid services or distributed energy
  • Proven experience leading commercial due diligence or major advisory engagements
  • Strong communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to translate market and regulatory trends into commercial implications
  • A commercial mindset and enthusiasm to support the growth of a PE-backed advisory firm
