Job Description
As a Principal Civil Asset Consultant in our Special Services team, you will lead a multidisciplinary team of civil, structural and geotechnical engineers, structural analysts, materials engineers, data analysts and asset management specialists. You will work on projects spanning the full lifecycle of civil engineering assets in the UK and beyond, including tunnels, bridges, retaining walls, culverts, piers and jetties.
Key responsibilities include:
- Guiding and supporting the development of the technical capabilities of the team, line‑management and mentoring, and setting high professional and technical standards.
- Developing and maintaining relationships with external and internal clients, understanding their needs and providing services.
- Scoping solutions for tenders and opportunities, preparing and reviewing proposals.
- Managing and leading technical and commercial aspects of projects, ensuring delivery and performance.
- Producing, checking and reviewing technical deliverables to meet client needs and quality standards.
- Supporting innovation and technology to improve delivery, efficiency and quality.
Candidate Specification
We are looking for an engineer with strong technical and problem‑solving skills who enjoys working on diverse projects across asset types and sectors.
Requirements:
- Experience in multi‑disciplinary commissions and proven client engagement and project management skills.
- Experience in planning, executing, and interpreting inspections and investigations of civil engineering assets.
- Knowledge of asset management principles and an understanding of client needs.
- Strong interpersonal, influencing, presentation, and report writing skills.
- Comfortable coordinating diverse teams and leading as needed.
- Previous management of small engineering teams and mentoring experience.
Education and Professional Qualifications
- A degree or post‑graduate degree (2.1+ or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or another STEM subject.
- Chartered status with a relevant professional institution (ICE, IStructE, IET or similar).
Desirable Skills
- Specialist knowledge of asset management in transport, utilities, energy or defence.
- Experience developing asset management plans and strategies.
- Applied research, development and use of technology for data analysis.
- Experience working with asset data to create models and practical tools.
