Preconstruction Manager Were working with a well-established, technically strong contractor delivering complex fit out and laboratory environments, and they are now looking to appoint a Preconstruction Manager to play a key role in shaping projects from the earliest stages. This is a genuinely influential position, suited to someone who enjoys being involved before spades hit the ground, contributing to design development, buildability, sequencing and technical solutions, particularly where mechanical systems are critical to success. As Preconstruction Manager, you will sit at the heart of the bid and early design process, working closely with directors, designers, estimators and supply chain partners to turn concepts into deliverable, well-planned projects. Preconstruction Manager Key Responsibilities: Leading the preconstruction and bid phase on fit out and laboratory projects
Active involvement in design development, design coordination and technical reviews
Providing early-stage buildability advice, programme input and risk mitigation
Working closely with M&E consultants and subcontractors, with a particular focus on mechanical systems
Supporting tender strategy, value engineering and contractor proposals
Acting as a key point of contact for clients during preconstruction and early engagement phases
Preconstruction Manager Criteria: This role will suit someone who is technically confident, commercially aware and comfortable operating at the front end of complex projects. You will ideally have: Proven experience as a Preconstruction Manager or Design Manager in a contractor environment
Strong background in fit out projects, ideally within laboratory, life sciences, healthcare or technical environments
A solid understanding of mechanical systems and how they influence design, cost and programme
Experience working closely with designers and consultants during RIBA stages 2 to 4
Confidence contributing to design discussions, rather than simply managing information
A proactive, collaborative approach and the ability to influence outcomes early
