Job Description
Power System & Product Development Engineer
Location: London (Hybrid – 3 days office / 2 remote after probation)
Salary: £80,574 + 3% bonus
About the Role
UK Power Networks is seeking a Power System & Product Development Engineer to support the development of a smarter, more flexible electricity network.
This role combines power systems engineering with digital product development, focusing on building tools that support flexible connections, DER integration, and DERMS operations across the network.
Key Responsibilities
Lead development of smart grid digital tools supporting flexible connections and DERMS. Perform power system studies (thermal, voltage, fault level) to identify network constraints. Develop Python-based tools, data pipelines, dashboards, and APIs. Use GitHub for version control and collaborative development. Work with teams across DSO, Planning, Operations, and IT, as well as external partners. Support and mentor junior engineers and analysts.
Requirements
Degree in Power Systems Engineering or similar discipline 7+ years experience in the energy sector Experience in power system analysis and operation Knowledge of DER integration, flexible connections, or DERMS Experience developing Python-based analytical tools Experience using power system modelling tools such as PowerFactory Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills
Desirable
Postgraduate degree in power systems or quantitative discipline Chartered Engineer status or working towards Knowledge of Grid Code, CUSC, or electricity market frameworks Project management qualification (APMP / PRINCE2)
