Energy / Infrastructure | Full-Time, Permanent A leading organisation within the electricity and energy sector is seeking a Power System Planning Engineer to join their team in Belfast. This role offers a unique opportunity to directly influence the future of Northern Ireland's electricity transmission grid as it transitions toward a net-zero energy system. About the Role: This is a pivotal role within the networks and grid development team, supporting the long-term transformation of the transmission system. You will be involved in identifying future system needs, assessing infrastructure requirements, and modelling reinforcement options that support the connection of renewable generation, energy demand, and enabling technologies. Key Responsibilities: Conduct power system studies (load flow, voltage, short circuit, and transient stability) to evaluate future grid requirements. Develop and assess transmission reinforcement options using technical, environmental, and economic criteria. Recommend optimal network solutions that support decarbonisation and long-term reliability. Assess new customer connections and determine best-fit integration methods. Use power system modelling software (e.g., PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory). Collaborate with key industry stakeholders and transmission partners to deliver projects efficiently. Support stakeholder engagement with regulators, utilities, and government departments. Drive process improvements and efficiencies across grid planning activities. Produce clear and comprehensive technical reports and briefing documents for both internal and external use. What You'll Need: Essential: Degree in Engineering (or equivalent) with a minimum of 2 years' relevant experience. Understanding or experience in power system analysis (e.g., load flow, short circuit, voltage). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal - including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Self-starter with a team-oriented mindset and a flexible, collaborative approach. Desirable: Degree in Electrical Engineering. Experience working within the electricity or energy sector. Familiarity with transmission network planning in Northern Ireland or similar markets. Proficiency in power system analysis tools such as PSSE or PowerFactory. Experience working in a regulated industry. Advanced Excel and data analysis capabilities. Python coding experience for modelling or automation tasks. Why Apply?
