Experience an array of policy work at the heart of a national regulator
Why join us?
We are the UK’s independent nuclear regulator, dedicated to keeping the UK’s nuclear industry safe and secure. We invest in our people to build capability and resilience within our great teams, underpinned by our inherent focus on inclusion and excellence. Our values, ‘supportive, open-minded, fair and accountable,’ shape how we work. Use your professional expertise to make a positive impact. Be part of a team committed to being a modern, transparent regulator delivering trusted outcomes and value. And, support our mission to protect society by securing safe nuclear operations. As a Policy Business Partner, you’ll be central to what we do and report to the Head of Policy.
What you’ll be doing:
Joining a small, fast-paced team, you’ll enjoy a wide variety of policy work in an interesting and dynamic role. Our Policy team provides insight and strategic guidance to ensure we have a fit-for-purpose policy framework – and you’ll be at the heart of this work. It means you’ll be giving robust policy advice and guidance across our Regulatory Directorate to deliver government policy. You’ll also interpret both internal and external policy matters, including horizon scanning, to help us plan for the future.
With a complex strategic portfolio to tackle, you’ll need to be the type who thrives on challenges. You should also be organised, adaptable and proactive – ready to lead policy development and delivery. Clear communication will be essential too. We’ll be looking to you to advise on changes to legislation and connect with other regulators and government departments.
What do you need to be great for this role?
To join us, you’ll need a high level of regulatory or similar technical policy expertise. You should be able to analyse complex policy issues and put in place practical solutions. However, people skills will be just as important in this role. You should therefore be adept at building relationships with stakeholders and working in multi-disciplinary teams. With these skills plus agile thinking, you’ll win the trust of colleagues right up to Board level. Excellent drafting skills will be essential for briefing senior leaders.
Ready for a fast-moving role where political sensitivity is required? You’ll need to be SC-cleared (or willing to be security vetted).
