Platform Engineer - Site Resilience

Location - Remote (with occasional trip to Edinburgh/ Glasgow as required)
Duration - 6months (possible extensions)
Day rate - £450 (OUTSIDE ir35)
An experienced Platform Engineer is required to support and enhance a large-scale on-premise compute and storage platform , delivering resilience, performance and efficiency improvements across critical infrastructure services. This role sits within the Site Resilience domain, working as part of a collaborative, multi-functional and agile team responsible for core platform services.
Key responsibilities
Support and enhance virtualisation and storage platforms, ensuring availability, performance and resilience
Contribute to the planning and adoption of NVMe storage technologies
Improve platform engineering practices for VMware vMotion and workload mobility
Enhance and expand the Commvault backup service , ensuring full platform coverage
Strengthen disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities
Collaborate with product and engineering colleagues to shape the platform roadmap and backlog
Design, plan and deploy new infrastructure solutions (e.g. NSX, vRealize, Nutanix, SAN migrations)
Monitor platform health, capacity and performance using modern observability tools
Maintain documentation, designs and operational procedures
Support live incidents, DR events and out-of-hours activities where required
Essential skills & experience
Strong experience with VMware 6/7/8 multi-site environments
Hands-on knowledge of Cisco UCS , NSX and Fibre Channel fabrics (Brocade)
Proven experience with disaster recovery planning and execution
Solid understanding of data centre best practices
Windows and RHEL operating systems
Infrastructure as Code and automation (Ansible, PowerShell/PowerCLI, Bash, Python)
Platform monitoring and observability, including Grafana
Agile and DevOps ways of working
Desirable
VMware, Nutanix or NetApp certifications
Experience with Commvault , vRA , MetroCluster or Nutanix platforms
Security architecture and hybrid/cloud exposure
