Role Overview
The Planning Insight Business Partner will work as part of a new team within the Strategic Planning department. This team will be focused on using data and evidence to provide meaningful insight to aid decision making at all levels within the University. The role holder will work closely with the University’s Faculties, Institutes and Departments and across the Strategic Planning Department to interpret internal and external data to drive improvements and identify best practice. Appointments are normally made within 4‑8 weeks of the closing date.
Key Tasks
Embed a culture across the university using data insights to drive continual improvement in relation to student experience.
Build better understanding and effective use of data across the University, improving ability to deal with future challenges and evolving needs.
Use a wide range of data sources to ensure the University’s course offering is attractive and competitive in the market.
Key Responsibilities
Undertake and provide meaningful analysis, interpretation and insight using a range of internal and external data sources.
Develop an in‑depth knowledge of a number of academic subject areas to underpin the provision of relevant, meaningful and timely data insights.
Work with departments and faculties to embed the use of data and insight into operational and strategic decision making.
Collaborate with Business Partners from other professional service functions to support institutes and faculties in change and goal attainment.
Develop a suite of reports and/or visualisations designed to provide insight and monitor progress towards strategic goals.
Use performance indicator metrics to work with colleagues on improvement projects impacting the student experience.
Ensure subject course portfolios respond to market demands and remain attractive to potential students.
Develop ideas and initiatives to take advantage of new opportunities.
Represent the Planning department at meetings and events, securing commitment to progress and keeping colleagues updated on outcomes.
Comply with the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR, maintaining confidentiality, integrity, accuracy, and security of information.
Additional Responsibilities
Undertake other duties as assigned by your line manager, commensurate with the role's grade.
Engage in university‑level projects and initiatives as directed.
Demonstrate flexibility by supporting colleagues during periods of high demand, including attendance at key university events which may include weekend work.

Essential Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills
Degree level in an analytical subject.
Experience interpreting data to provide meaningful insight accessible to non‑data specialists.
Experience producing visualisations and dashboards.
Experience promoting data insights to support continuous improvement.
Proven ability to build effective relationships across departments and functions.
Understanding of data handling and record‑keeping regulations (GDPR, DPA, PERC).
Strong mathematical and statistical knowledge, applied to data analysis.
Ability to work accurately under pressure, manage a demanding workload and meet deadlines.
Ability to compose concise, fit‑for‑purpose analysis and reports.
Excellent oral and written communication.
Awareness of the bilingual nature of the University and related procedures.
Desirable
Further degree or specific qualifications in Mathematics, Statistics, or Data Science.
Experience using data to refine and develop course portfolios.
Oral and written Welsh Level B2.*
