PEOPLE OPERATIONS MANAGER

Full-time | Central London (with hybrid flexibility)

INTRODUCTION

We’re looking for a dynamic, people-focused leader to take charge of staffing for one of the UK’s most exciting youth sports programmes. Every summer, thousands of young people from around the world attend our residential sports camps, delivered by a passionate team of temporary staff. Behind the scenes, a small London-based team ensures everything runs smoothly and that starts with hiring the right people.

This role is ideal for someone who understands the energy, structure, and safeguarding required to work with young people, perhaps someone with a background in education, coaching, or sport who’s ready for a new challenge in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Temporary Staff Management (Summer Camp Delivery)

  • Lead the recruitment and onboarding of 400+ seasonal staff annually
  • Manage staffing budgets and support payroll and invoicing processes
  • Oversee training, safeguarding compliance, and contracting
  • Build a positive, inclusive culture that encourages staff retention and development
  • Implement and manage a performance appraisal process
  • Maintain strong relationships with training and onboarding partners
  • Ensure all staff meet safeguarding and legal requirements

People & Culture (Head Office)

  • Manage the internal recruitment team
  • Support the hiring and onboarding of permanent staff
  • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion across the organisation
  • Contribute to staff wellbeing and professional development
  • Produce an annual review of staffing and recruitment performance

ABOUT YOU

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in working with children or young people (e.g. education, coaching, youth work)
  • Passionate about sport, with experience in a sporting environment (e.g. teaching PE, coaching, sports development, or similar)
  • Familiar with residential programmes and the demands of temporary staffing
  • Highly organised, detail-oriented, and calm under pressure
  • Knowledgeable about safeguarding and safer recruitment (KCSIE or similar)
  • A confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Excel and workforce management systems
  • Willing to work flexibly during peak summer periods (June–August)
