The Role

You will play a key role in delivering a dependable, efficient and cost-effective maintenance service for material handling solutions. This is a hands-on engineering position within a fast-paced, operationally critical environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

* Deliver mechanical, electrical and control system maintenance across a wide range of capital equipment including conveyors, carousels, screening equipment, sortation systems, diverters, and tag readers

* Respond to faults and breakdowns while also carrying out planned preventative maintenance activities

* Complete remedial actions identified during inspections and servicing

* Use a CMMS to record work, analyse failures, and contribute to performance improvements through clear reporting

* Act as a key link between engineering, operations, and wider stakeholders, following defined escalation routes

* Champion health, safety, and safe systems of work at all times

* Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to working groups when required

* Maintain spare parts stock and manage engineering stores

* Carry out workshop-based engineering tasks

* Support testing and technical assurance activities

* Oversee external contractors during out-of-hours works

* Keep work areas clean, organised, and compliant with site standards

* Actively promote a positive safety culture across the organisation

What We’re Looking For

* A recognised engineering apprenticeship

* Mechanical and electrical qualifications (minimum NVQ Level 3), including current wiring regulations (17th/18th Edition)

* Experience maintaining automated conveyor or materials handling systems within sectors such as automation, automotive, or FMCG

* Strong fault-finding skills and experience responding to live operational breakdowns

* Familiarity with CMMS platforms and structured PPM schedules

* Working knowledge of industrial control systems and PLCs

* Experience carrying out mechanical service work in both operational and workshop environments

* Proven ability to work safely with voltages from low-level DC through to 415VAC

* Understanding of health and safety legislation, including producing risk assessments and safe systems of work

* Ability to read and interpret schematics, drawings, and O&M manuals

* Confident using Microsoft Word and Excel

Shift Pattern

This role supports a 24/7 operation and follows a 4-on, 4-off rota covering both day and night shifts. Flexibility is essential to meet changing operational demands.
