Job Description
Job Title: Mechanical Stress Engineer\n\nLocation: Stockport\n\nContract: Permanent\n\nSalary: £50 - £55k basic + Benefits\n\nOverview\n\nWe are seeking a talented Mechanical Stress Engineer to join a leading engineering and manufacturing organisation. The successful candidate will play a key role in the Engineering team, performing technical analysis, developing concepts, and supporting both in-house and outsourced engineering activities. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate engineer with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar manufacturing environment to develop their career in a hands-on, high-integrity engineering role.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nTake responsibility for the structural integrity of manufactured products, ensuring compliance with specifications, safety, legislative, and environmental requirements\n\nPerform stress analysis, fatigue evaluation, and design calculations, including non-linear FEA\n\nWrite test specifications, acceptance criteria, and reporting documentation\n\nWork to specified design criteria and applicable standards\n\nOversee in-house and outsourced engineering activities, performing design reviews for fabricated metallic products\n\nLiaise with clients to verify project scope and ensure deliverables\n\nPrepare and manage project programmes, workloads, and resources\n\nInvestigate, evaluate, and resolve issues with non-conforming products\n\nSupport problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives\n\nEssential Requirements:\n\nEngineering degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Mechanical or Aerospace)\n\nMinimum 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment\n\nChartered status IMechE/IStructE desirable\n\nStrong understanding of structural behaviour, material properties, and fabrication processes\n\nProven experience with FEA simulation (e.g., ANSYS) and structural integrity/fatigue assessment\n\nStrong understanding of Aluminium properties\n\nFamiliarity with Eurocodes and relevant design standards\n\nCompetent in 3D modelling software (e.g., Solid Edge, SpaceClaim)\n\nAbility to interpret technical documentation, drawings, and specifications\n\nExperience with design validation, simulation, and testing (including strain gauging)\n\nExcellent IT skills, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities\n\nSkills & Attributes:\n\nExcellent communicator with strong report-writing and presentation skills\n\nAbility to manage multiple projects and deadlines\n\nWillingness to travel within the UK and overseas\n\nFull driving license\n\nBy applying for this position, you consent to Recruit Engineering processing and storing your personal data, including your CV, contact details, and any other relevant information, for the purpose of providing work-finding services.
