Mechanical Shift Engineer (Days + Nights) Facilities Maintenance London £48,000 + Overtime
Our client are one of the leading commercial M&E maintenance providers, with a number of high-profile customers across sectors including real estate, financial services, pharmaceutical, they now seek mechanical-bias engineers to join their existing and growing team, based in the London area. This will eventually comprise a mixed-use development and include elements of both commercial office, residential and retail space, as well as live entertainment (concerts, sporting, etc). While eventually a 24/7 "4 on / 4 off" shift pattern will be adopted by the engineering team, it will operate on a Monday-Friday basis upon start in early 2026 prior to handover from main contractor to our client. Basic salary for these positions is fixed at £50,000 and also includes a shift allowance of £5,000.
Candidates must be fully qualified in mechanical engineering, ideally through a full apprenticeship, and 5+ years experience in a similar shift role within commercial building services / FM. Additional training such as F-Gas, Mechanical / Water Treatment AP, Cooling Towers, etc will be beneficial. Typical duties within the role are as follows;
Perform routine maintenance tasks, including inspections, servicing, and repairs of mechanical systems and equipment such as HVAC systems, pumps, motors, and other mechanical assets. Conduct planned preventative maintenance to ensure the ongoing reliability and efficiency of mechanical systems. Respond promptly and effectively to mechanical faults, breakdowns, and emergency situations, ensuring minimal disruption to operations. Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues using appropriate tools and techniques, and determine the most effective course of action for repair. Coordinate and liaise with internal teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure the timely resolution of mechanical issues and maintenance requirements. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all maintenance and repair activities, including work orders, equipment data, and any necessary documentation. Adhere to health and safety guidelines and regulations at all times, ensuring a safe work environment for yourself and those around you. Stay informed about industry trends, advances in mechanical technology, and best practices, and apply this knowledge to enhance maintenance processes and procedures.Requirements:
Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer or similar role, ideally within a facilities management or property services environment. Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, equipment, and machinery, including HVAC systems, pumps, motors, and associated controls. Proficient in diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults, and conducting planned preventative maintenance. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work swiftly under pressure to resolve issues. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, colleagues, and subcontractors. Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Relevant qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Knowledge of health and safety regulations and practices. Flexibility to work on shifts and participate in an on-call rota.If interested contact (url removed)
