Mechanical Project Engineer - U.K (Data Centres)
Location: Birmingham, UK
Salary: £75k-£85k DOE.
Up to 25 days Annual Leave, Pension, 9-day Fortnight.

Optimize Recruitment is partnering with a leading engineering consultancy to hire a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for their newly established Birmingham office. This is a standout opportunity to play a key role in building a UK presence while collaborating closely with an established Dublin-based team on major hyperscale data centre projects across the EMEA region.

The role will begin fully remote, transitioning to a hybrid model once the Birmingham office becomes operational. Flexibility around office attendance will be expected as part of a collaborative working environment.

Requirements

  • Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Chartered status advantageous)
  • Minimum 7+ years experience across Data Centres, Industrial, High-Tech, Commercial, or Healthcare sectors
  • Strong knowledge of CIBSE, ASHRAE, BS, IS, and EN standards
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam
  • Familiarity with additional engineering analysis software is beneficial
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Proven experience leading and coordinating engineering teams
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and organisational skills
  • A proactive mindset with interest in emerging technologies

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical building services design from concept to completion
  • Design and specify mechanical systems for a range of projects
  • Carry out ongoing design and installation quality checks
  • Prepare detailed tender packages, reports, and technical recommendations
  • Maintain and uphold internal mechanical design standards
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to define project scope
  • Take ownership of project delivery with minimal oversight
  • Mentor and support the development of engineering team members

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take ownership of projects across the full lifecyclefrom initial concept through to client handover. Youll lead mechanical design delivery, ensure high technical standards, and support the development of junior engineers through mentoring and guidance.
