Mechanical Maintenance Technician (Product Support Engineer) - Rail
Location: London (North Pole) Contract Type: Permanent Hours: Full-time
The Role
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Maintenance Technician to carry out routine maintenance, fault-finding and repair activities on rail products. Reporting to the Site Team Leader or Site Supervisor, you will ensure all work is completed in line with approved manuals, contractual requirements and safety standards.
This role is well suited to a mechanically biased engineer who enjoys hands-on work in a rail or heavy-engine environment and is keen to embrace digital tools and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Perform preventative, scheduled and corrective maintenance in line with maintenance plans and technical documentation Carry out planned maintenance tasks in accordance with operating instructions Diagnose faults and complete repairs using technical drawings and fault-finding guides Accurately complete all service and maintenance documentation Record parts used to support effective stock control Actively contribute to continuous improvement by suggesting better maintenance methods and procedures Attend customer meetings where required and obtain sign-off for completed works Maintain cleanliness and organisation of on-site facilities Participate fully in HSQE (Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental) processes Attend local and factory-based training to maintain and develop skills Use IT systems such as maintenance, diagnostics and reporting platforms Support work at other depots when required
Candidate Profile
Essential:
Engineering background with a strong mechanical bias (electrical knowledge desirable) NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Engineering or a relevant discipline Proven experience in maintenance, repair and overhaul Strong safety awareness Confident using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and email)Desirable:
Experience working on train diesel engines Backgrounds also considered from: Automotive maintenance (ideally engine or powertrain focused) Aircraft maintenance(Training will be provided for role-specific systems and platforms.)
