Job Description

Office: Birmingham / Hybrid,/ site visits\n\nSalary: £45,000 -£65,000 + package\n\nRole Overview\n\nThe Mechanical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for mechanical building services projects including HVAC, public health, and associated systems.\n\nWorking as part of the Pre-Construction team, the role involves reviewing tender documentation, analysing specifications and drawings, assessing project risks, and developing detailed cost plans for projects across sectors such as commercial, residential, healthcare, data centres, and infrastructure.\n\nThe estimator plays a key role in supporting the company’s tender submissions and securing new business opportunities.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nTender Review\n\n * \n\n Review and analyse tender documentation including drawings, specifications, and employer’s requirements.\n\n * \n\n Identify project scope, risks, and opportunities during the tender stage.\n\n * \n\n Attend tender briefings and pre-tender meetings where required.\n\nCost Estimating\n\n * \n\n Prepare detailed mechanical estimates for HVAC, pipework, plant, and public health services.\n\n * \n\n Carry out material take-offs and labour assessments.\n\n * \n\n Develop accurate cost plans and pricing schedules.\n\nSupplier & Subcontractor Enquiries\n\n * \n\n Issue enquiries to suppliers and specialist subcontractors.\n\n * \n\n Analyse returned quotations and incorporate into tender submissions.\n\n * \n\n Negotiate costs where appropriate to achieve competitive pricing.\n\nTechnical Evaluation\n\n * \n\n Work closely with design consultants and internal technical teams to clarify design intent.\n\n * \n\n Identify potential value engineering opportunities.\n\n * \n\n Propose alternative solutions where beneficial to cost or programme.\n\nTender Submission\n\n * \n\n Compile tender documentation and ensure all pricing submissions are complete and compliant.\n\n * \n\n Prepare tender summaries and reports for senior management review.\n\n * \n\n Support post-tender negotiations and client meetings.\n\nCollaboration\n\n * \n\n Work closely with: Design teams, Commercial teams,Project delivery. teams\n\n * \n\n Provide estimating support during project handover.\n\nKey Skills & Experience\n\nEssential\n\n * \n\n Experience working as a Mechanical Estimator within the building services / MEP industry.\n\n * \n\n Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including: HVAC,Chilled water, Heating systems,Public health services.\n\n * \n\n Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications.\n\n * \n\n Experience preparing detailed cost estimates for construction projects.\n\n * \n\n Good commercial awareness and cost analysis skills.\n\nDesirable\n\n * \n\n Experience working for a Tier 1 or Tier 2 MEP contractor.\n\n * \n\n Knowledge of UK construction procurement routes.\n\n * \n\n Experience with estimating software (e.g. Trimble, Estimation, Excel-based systems).\n\n * \n\n HNC/HND or degree in Building Services Engineering or related discipline.\n\nIf you are intersted in this Role or know of anyone intersted, please call Chris at TXM recruit or click apply
