Mechanical Design Project Engineer
Near Hull
£50K per annum
We are seeking a Mechanical Designer Project Engineer to join an engineering team. The organisation delivers advanced automation solutions across airports, automotive manufacturing, and large-scale logistics environments worldwide and is recognised for its engineering excellence and innovative system design.
This role sits within the Engineering Department and works under the guidance of senior and lead mechanical engineers. The successful candidate will support the design, development, and delivery of complex baggage handling systems, from concept through to commissioning, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to specification.
You will be involved in the design and development of mechanical conveyor systems for airport baggage handling projects, working in both 2D and 3D environments.

The company will offer 25 days of Holidays plus bank holidays and early finish on a Friday.
Responsibilities
Produce detailed mechanical fabrication drawings
Prepare technical specifications and process documentation
Select conveyors and power transmission equipment
Support manufacturing and subcontracting activities
Participate in design review meetings
Develop mechanical installation and phasing plans
Support testing, installation, and commissioning activities (office-based and on-site)
Liaise with suppliers and purchasing teams to order mechanical equipment
Conduct site visits to validate installation quality and compliance
Contribute to equipment development and continuous improvement initiatives
Support the sales team with proposals and customer-specific solutions
Survey existing installations and resolve mechanical interface and clash issues Experience and Qualifications
Strong grounding in mechanical engineering principles, production processes, and manufacturing methods
Knowledge of large-scale automated systems. (desirable)
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a relevant technical diploma or equivalent
Professional experience within industrial automation or manufacturing.
Applicants must be proficient in AutoCAD (2D and 3D) and Microsoft Office, with experience in Inventor.
Strong time management, critical thinking, and decision-making skills are essential, along with clear verbal and written communication abilities.
