Mechanical Design Engineer
Are you a talented Mechanical Design Engineer with a passion for precision design, problem-solving and innovation? We are seeking a driven individual to join a dynamic technical services team within a leading organisation that specialises in complex electromechanical systems for high-integrity environments.
This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in developing cutting-edge mechanical solutions used in some of the most demanding industries, including defence and advanced computing. You’ll work from concept to completion across the full product lifecycle, contributing to the design and development of enclosures, assemblies, and bespoke components.
Key Responsibilities of the Mechanical Design Engineer:
Design and development of electromechanical enclosures using SolidWorks – from 3D part/assembly models to 2D manufacturing drawings.
Perform mechanical analysis (FEA/CFD/hand calculations) and tolerance stack-up to verify designs.
Material selection (especially steels and aluminium alloys) based on functional and environmental requirements.
Create and manage engineering documentation including BoMs, design reviews, installation instructions, test procedures, and compliance matrices.
Engage in design for manufacture, particularly with sheet metal, machined, and 3D-printed parts.
Collaborate closely with engineers and project managers to deliver high-quality work to schedule and budget.
Essential Skills & Experience of the Mechanical Design Engineer:
Solid experience in mechanical design using 3D CAD Systems such as Solidworks, Inventor etc .
Strong understanding of materials and mechanical component selection.
Proven ability to create professional engineering drawings and documentation.
Experience working with ERP systems and engineering change control processes.
Excellent communication and organisational skills with a strong attention to detail.
Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
Desirable:
Experience in the defence, electronics, or IT hardware industries.
Familiarity with SolidWorks Electrical and 3D routing integration.
Understanding of PDM systems, environmental standards (Def Stan, MIL-STD, BS EN), and product safety/CE marking.
Systems engineering knowledge, including requirements analysis, verification and validation.
Experience in cable harness design and practical prototype build/support.
