Mechanical Design Engineer - Special Purpose Machinery Competitive Salary + Pension (5-7%) + Enhanced holidays (28 + 8) + Health plan + Life Assurance x5 + Sick Pay.Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in machine tools, special purpose machinery, or bespoke automated systems?This is an opportunity to join a highly respected precision engineering business designing and building complex, high-value machinery used in advanced manufacturing environments worldwide.If you enjoy designing real machines (not just components) and want to see your work, go from concept through to build and commissioning-this role is for you.Why Join?Work on bespoke, one-off and low-volume machine buildsBe involved in the full lifecycle: concept ? design ? build ? commissioningJoin a business known for engineering excellence and precisionCollaborate with manufacturing, assembly, and commercial teamsOpportunity to make a real impact on design improvements and innovation The RoleYou will be responsible for the design and development of mechanisms, machine systems and complete special purpose machines.Key responsibilities include:Designing new machine systems, mechanisms, and componentsModifying and improving existing machine designs to meet customer requirementsWorking on machine tool design, tooling, and automated systemsSupporting manufacturing and assembly during machine build and commissioningProducing detailed CAD models and engineering drawingsManaging BOMs and part releases via SAPConducting design reviews, DFMEA and PFMEASupporting technical bids and customer-facing documentationWhat We're Looking ForEssential:Min 5 years design experience in:Machine tool designSpecial purpose machinery (SPM)Bespoke automated machines / production systemsStrong background in mechanism and machine design (not just static components)Proven experience designing moving assemblies and complex systemsAbility to work across the full machine lifecycleAlso desirable:HNC/HND/Degree in Mechanical Engineering3D CAD experience (Siemens NX - advantageous)Experience with manufacturing processes and assembly supportFamiliarity with DFMEA / PFMEA / design reviewsThe OpportunityThis is not a role designing small components in isolation.
