Overview\n\nWe are currently seeking an M&E Design Manager in Manchester to lead design coordination and technical delivery across major building and engineering projects.\n\nThis is a senior role for someone who can take ownership of the design process from early concept through to construction support, ensuring solutions are coordinated, compliant, buildable and commercially sensible.\n\nYou’ll work closely with pre-construction, commercial and operations teams to reduce design risk early, drive value where possible, and keep programmes moving.\n\nAbout the Company\n\nOur client is a leading UK contractor with an established in-house engineering services capability, delivering complex projects across multiple sectors.\n\nThey operate with structured governance, strong technical support and experienced delivery teams, providing a solid platform for a design leader who enjoys ownership, pace and high standards.\n\nWhat You’ll Be Doing\n\n * \n\n Leading M&E design delivery from concept through to detailed design and construction support\n\n * \n\n Managing design programmes, deliverables and design risk to protect programme and commercial position\n\n * \n\n Coordinating internal and external designers, including consultants and specialist supply chain partners\n\n * \n\n Driving buildability reviews and value engineering, ensuring the design supports efficient installation\n\n * \n\n Reviewing and approving drawings, calculations, specifications, schedules and equipment selection\n\n * \n\n Chairing design meetings and workshops, ensuring actions are tracked, closed and decisions recorded\n\n * \n\n Managing technical queries, RFIs and design change control across the project lifecycle\n\n * \n\n Working with BIM/CAD teams to ensure coordination, clash resolution and strong document control\n\n * \n\n Supporting tender activity where required with technical input, scope clarification and bid documentation\n\n * \n\n Ensuring commissioning, O&M information and handover requirements are considered early and captured correctly\n\nSkills & Experience Required\n\n * \n\n Proven experience in M&E design management or senior building services design (contractor or consultancy background)\n\n * \n\n Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and how they interface through installation\n\n * \n\n Confidence managing design programmes, stakeholders and competing priorities\n\n * \n\n Solid knowledge of UK regulations and relevant industry standards\n\n * \n\n Comfortable working in BIM-coordinated environments (Revit experience beneficial)\n\n * \n\n Strong communication skills with a practical, solutions-led approach\n\n * \n\n Organised, detail-focused and strong on document control and reporting\n\n * \n\n Degree / HND / HNC in Building Services Engineering (or equivalent experience)\n\n * \n\n Full UK driving licence ()\n\nBenefits\n\n * \n\n Salary: £65,000 - £85,000 depending on experience\n\n * \n\n Car or car allowance plus benefits package\n\n * \n\n Permanent role with a strong pipeline and long-term opportunity\n\n * \n\n Senior position with real influence over design outcomes and project performance
