Marine Project Engineer

FINTEC recruit is seeking a Marine Project Engineer for our marine client based in South Shields.  This is a permanent role based on site where you will be part of the planning and delivery of engineering projects for RN vessels working within the commercial team.  Salary is in the £40,000 to £45,000 range depending on experience plus benefits.

Responsibilities:

Involved in technical aspects/scopes of project delivery.  Full cycle from initial request to execution and delivery of projects

Work closely with internal and external stakeholders in developing and implementing engineering solutions

Oversee engineering implementation of upgrades and modifications onboard vessels

Provide engineering input & oversight both on-site and remotely when required

Liaise with MOD representatives ensuring technical alignment and compliance with defence standards

Support the preparation of detailed work packages; monitor and resolve technical issues

Maintain accurate technical documentation and contribute to project reporting.

Assist in cost and resource estimation, change control, and continuous improvement activities.

Attend project client meetings as the lead engineer

Skills and Qualifications required for the Marine Project Engineer:

HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical, Marine, or Electrical Engineering (or similar discipline).

Experience of Royal Navy, RFA or MOD managed assets is desirable

Knowledge of Classification Society, Flag State & defence specific regulations

Proven experience in a project engineering role, ideally within defence or marine sectors.

Strong technical problem-solving skills with a hands-on understanding of engineering systems.

Ability to manage multiple technical workstreams and liaise with diverse stakeholders.

Familiarity with engineering project lifecycles, maintenance planning, and OEM coordination.

Project Management training or certification (eg Prince 2 / APM or equivalent desirable (not an essential)
