The role
As a Manual Turner, you’ll be setting and operating manual lathes to produce high-quality parts to specification. You’ll manage your own setups, ensure accuracy, and keep production records up to date. It’s a role suited to someone reliable, detail-focused, and confident working independently on the shop floor.
Day-to-day responsibilities
Read and interpret engineering drawings
Set up manual lathes with correct tooling and fixtures
Machine components to required tolerances
Inspect finished parts using micrometers, calipers, gauges and CMMs
Identify and report defects or non-conformities
Log completed jobs, machine hours and tool wear
Carry out basic machine maintenance (cleaning, lubrication)
Troubleshoot machining or tooling issues
Work closely with engineers and production management
Follow all health & safety and quality procedures

Proven experience as a Manual Turner
Strong ability to read and work from technical drawings
Confident setting and operating manual lathes independently
Experience using precision measuring equipment
Good understanding of tolerances and quality standards
Reliable and consistent approach to work
