Maintenance Manager – Manufacturing – £65,000 per annum
Location: Bedford
Full-time – Permanent – Monday – Friday
The Company:
Our client are a leader in the food manufacturing industry, committed to operational excellence, safety, and continuous improvement. They are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Maintenance Manager to join their team and lead the shift-based Engineering team across their sites.
The Role:
As Maintenance Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient operation of our clients manufacturing facilities through effective leadership of their engineering teams. You’ll be responsible for managing both reactive and preventative maintenance activities, overseeing contractors, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and food safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead, manage, and develop the shift-based Engineering teams across 2 Bedford sites.
* Ensure effective delivery of reactive maintenance support and execution of the Preventative Maintenance (PM) program.
* Manage team attendance, discipline, and performance metrics.
* Provide timely and efficient closure of actions on the Engineering Priorities List.
* Coordinate with Production & Planning teams to schedule maintenance opportunities.
* Manage external contractors from performance, commercial, and safety perspectives.
* Ensure engineering documentation (IFS entries, work orders) is completed to standard.
* Maintain a state of audit readiness at all times.
* Manage spare parts inventory, warehousing, and procurement processes.
* Oversee statutory and condition monitoring compliance and contractor performance.
* Monitor and control budgets related to spares and external maintenance services.
* Support strategic plant improvements and development of team capability.
About You:
* Proven experience in an Engineering Management role within a manufacturing environment.
* Tertiary qualification in Engineering (e.g., City & Guilds, HND, etc.).
* Excellent people management skills with the ability to lead, coach, and mentor teams.
* Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation (COSHH, Risk Assessments, DSEAR, PTW).
* Experience managing external contractors and driving performance.
* Proactive approach to maintenance planning and continuous improvement.
* Strategic thinker with attention to detail and organisational awareness.
