Maintenance Manager


Are you an experienced Maintenance Manager with a strong engineering background and a proven track record of leading teams and delivering complex maintenance operations? We are seeking a Maintenance Manager to lead, manage, and control all maintenance activities across our Ardeer site, ensuring Site Services effectively support operational and administrative needs. This is a key leadership role within the Engineering function, reporting to the Head of Site Engineering and with full responsibility for leading and developing the maintenance team.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all maintenance activities across the site, ensuring operations are safe, efficient, and fully compliant with company and legislative requirements.
  • Champion a strong Health & Safety culture by ensuring compliance at all times and proactively reporting any unsafe acts or conditions via the Near Miss system.
  • Develop, manage, and control the maintenance budget, providing clear and regular reporting on planned, actual, and forecasted spend.
  • Establish and continuously improve a robust Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) system across all operational areas.
  • Plan and optimise maintenance resources, including workforce structure and trade mix, to meet both current and future business needs.
  • Identify requirements for specialist equipment and implement effective maintenance contracts with clearly defined scope, cost, and performance measures.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities meet current and emerging legislative requirements, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of HSE standards.
  • Oversee the preparation and implementation of method statements and risk assessments for all maintenance work.
  • Provide strong leadership and supervision across the maintenance function in line with Health & Safety regulations.
  • Drive root cause analysis for significant equipment failures, ensuring lessons learned are embedded and improvements implemented.
  • Define clear roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations across the maintenance team.
  • Develop and track KPIs aligned to business objectives, ensuring visibility, engagement, and accountability across the team.
  • Support and promote change management initiatives, maintaining clear and effective communication at all levels of the business.
  • Lead on performance management, including setting objectives, conducting reviews, and supporting team development.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of engineering maintenance principles and best practices.
  • Proven experience managing maintenance operations within budgetary constraints.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within a maintenance or engineering environment.
  • Experience working collaboratively within multi-functional teams.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience in developing procedures and risk assessments.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation.
  • Working knowledge of CMMS systems and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with maintenance best practices such as Lean and RCM.
  • Competent IT skills across standard business systems.
  • NEBOSH Certificate (to be achieved within 6 months).
