ABFP provides food relief to more than 2,000 households each year in the Allston-Brighton neighborhood. We proudly celebrate queer and trans members and guests, promote racial and environmental justice, and serve as a hub for compassion, dignity, and mutual support. Our core programs include Community Suppers, Rescue Grocery Distributions, and Food Basket Distributions, all grounded in respect, hospitality, and community care.
Role Summary:
The Maintenance and Facilities Coordinator ensures that the Food Pantry’s physical environment is safe, functional, and ready for daily use. This role bridges facilities management, vendor coordination, and custodial care of shared spaces that support both Pantry and church operations. The Facilities Lead helps maintain a welcoming, safe environment for pantry guests, volunteers, and staff. This role reports to the pastor of the Brighton Allston Congregational Church.
Key Responsibilities:
Monitor condition of buildings and grounds and address preventative maintenance needs proactively, maintaining safe building conditions Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs as able, including but not limited to:
Painting Minor plumbing repairs Light carpentry Equipment maintenance Door, lock, and hardware adjustments
Maintain parking areas, walkways, and outdoor spaces Ensure safe snow and ice management Coordinate with contractors for specialized repairs including:
HVAC Electrical Plumbing Roofing Fire safety systems Obtain bids when required
Projects exceeding the approved spending threshold are referred to the Business Lead and Buildings & Grounds Committee
Monitor contractor work for completion and quality Prepare spaces for pantry distribution and community meals, assisting with setup of tables, supplies, and equipment Ensure lighting, utilities, and safety systems are functioning Address facility issues quickly during program hours Purchase routine supplies within approved budget Coordinate routine vendor service visits Track compliance and service schedules for:
Heating systems Refrigeration Fire alarms Pest control
Coordinate occasional volunteer workdays for:
Cleanup projects Landscaping Minor repairs
Provide training & supervision to volunteers assisting with facilities tasks Maintain cleanliness of pantry, kitchen, and common areas Oversee trash removal and recycling Ensure bathrooms and shared spaces remain clean and stocked Support sanitation standards required for food programs Ensure proper storage and labeling of cleaning chemicals Maintain MSDS documentation Oversee custodial vendor for routine deep-cleaning
Qualifications:
Required:
Experience managing vendors and contractors 3–5 years experience in facilities maintenance, property management, or building operations Strong practical skills in basic maintenance and repairs Strong attention to safety and cleanliness Ability to lift 40–50 lbs

Experience in nonprofit, school, or church facilities Strong communication and collaboration skills ServeSafe certification (or willingness to obtain).
