We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Project Manager to lead and deliver complex mainframe initiatives on a contract basis. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with z/OS environments, IBM Z tooling, and a proven track record of delivering on-time, within-scope, and within-budget projects through effective governance, risk management, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead end-to-end delivery of mainframe projects (e.g., COBOL/CICS/DB2 modernization, batch scheduling, application migrations, containerization strategies, or performance tuning).

Define project scope, goals, milestones, timelines, budgets, and resource plans; manage changes via a formal change control process.

Develop and maintain project artifacts: project plan, RAID log, communications plan, status reports, and executive dashboards.

Coordinate cross-functional teams (business, IT, QA, infrastructure, vendors) and manage third-party vendors/partners.

Ensure adherence to standards, security, compliance, and regulatory requirements related to mainframe environments.

Monitor and mitigate project risks; manage issues, dependencies, and escalation paths.

Lead agile or hybrid delivery practices where applicable; facilitate ceremonies and ensure backlog clarity for related work.

Manage critical path and dependencies with legacy systems, interfaces, and batch windows; optimize scheduling to minimize business impact.

Ensure quality assurance through test strategies, data migration plans, and cutover/Go-Live readiness.

Provide leadership, mentorship, and clear communication to project team members and stakeholders.

Maintain documentation and ensure knowledge transfer to operations/support teams.
