LV Authorised Person (AP) – Electrical (Subcontractor Oversight)
Location: Reading (University Project)
Salary: £65,000–£75,000 + package
Why This Role?
Take ownership of LV electrical assurance on a major university project. This is a unique AP role focused on managing and overseeing subcontractors rather than carrying out testing yourself. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring compliance, safety, and quality across all LV installations — acting as the technical authority on-site and safeguarding standards in a high-profile live environment.
What You’ll Do
Oversee and manage subcontractor testing teams on LV installations
Act as Authorised Person, issuing permits and managing isolations (LOTO procedures)
Witness testing and commissioning activities, ensuring compliance with standards
Review and verify all test results, escalating issues outside acceptable parameters
Manage and maintain project documentation, including test records and electronic folders
Coordinate fixed wiring, earthing, and modular wiring testing activities
Inspect installations and switchgear for compliance with BS7671 and project requirements
Manage project schematics, gateway trackers, and handover documentation
Ensure correct protective device settings and verify torque levels to manufacturer standards
Issue inspection reports, snag lists, and non-compliance notices
Liaise with project teams to ensure timely close-out of defects and issues
Support client witnessing and contribute to final certification (e.g. NICEIC)
Coordinate requests for power, isolations, and associated documentation
Maintain security and control of areas under your responsibility
Work flexibly, including out-of-hours where required to meet project deadlines
What We’re Looking For
Proven experience in LV electrical testing, commissioning, or AP roles
Strong knowledge of BS7671, GN3, and electrical safety procedures (including LOTO)
Experience managing subcontractors and overseeing testing activities
Understanding of PME procedures and electrical compliance standards
Ability to review technical documentation, test results, and schematics accurately
Confident coordinating with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders
Detail-oriented with strong documentation and reporting skills
This role offers strong site influence, technical responsibility, and the opportunity to play a key part in delivering a complex, high-value education project — without being hands-on with testing
