Job Title: Locum Commercial Property Lawyer

Type: Locum

Duration: minimum 6 months likely moving to ongoing

Hourly rate: £55 - £60p/hr (inside IR35)

Spirehouse is recruiting a Locum Commercial Property Lawyer on behalf of one of our valued clients. This role is based within a well-established local authority in the East of England, offering the chance to work on a varied and meaningful property caseload. Renowned for its positive culture and collaborative team environment, the council provides an excellent setting for a lawyer to apply their expertise while contributing to significant regeneration and development projects.


Duties:

  • Handle a varied debt-recovery caseload, including charging orders, land charges, statutory demands, and related insolvency, CPO, and proceeds-of-crime matters.
  • Manage commercial advisory, drafting, and negotiation work across Council services, mainly covering contracts, procurement, and corporate law.
  • Provide company secretarial support to the Council’s companies and ensure corporate law compliance.
  • Advise on procurement regulations and support legally compliant tender processes.
  • Assist with contract management, including KPI review and applying contract terms.


Experience:

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive with practising certificate – Essential
  • Local authority legal experience – Essential
  • 5+ years post-qualification practice – Essential
  • Experience in regeneration, development, or major infrastructure projects – Desirable
  • Knowledge of auction sales, compulsory purchase, and unregistered land – Desirable
  • Understanding of planning and housing law in property matters – Desirable
